I start tomorrow

My boyfriend is leaving tomorrow, which of course makes me very sad. But in order to distract myself I have decided to start my new running program tomorrow after work. I am one of those early risers that really hate traffic so I get to work very early. This means I am usually home in the afternoon before other people start getting home. I like this because I feel I have the rest of my evening to work out, cook, and relax. I also tend to go to bed earlier but that just stands to reason I think.

I have been wearing Nike Air Pegasus +27 (http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/?l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-1/pid-362641/pgid-301229#l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-100701/pid-306845) for the last year or so. They are very comfortable and got me through all my previous training and races. When I bought them I did not know much about running, walking, or what my goals would be. Now that I have been reading and mildly obsessing the last year, I am considering other options. I will begin my training with these with the open mind that might be getting something new in the near future.

Barefoot vs Minimalist vs Neutral Shoes

As many other people have, I read Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. I do not think you could throw a stone in the running world without hitting that book right now. It did intrigue me. I do remember running around as a little kid without shoes. I am naturally a person that hates wearing shoes. I am barefoot or wearing thin flip flops whenever and wherever I can. At work I have to wear close toe shoes, but they are very flat and minimal. However, I do not know if I am ready to run that way. I am still overweight and running on the street (really do not have a lot of grassy options here) freaks me out a bit. I am doing research to figure out but at the end of it all I think I will just have to try it. I would love to try minimalist shoes but for shoes that have less to them, they certainly still cost a lot. I read on the Runner's World forums some people turn to water shoes. Maybe I will try that.

Ok, enough for today!
